About NordTourNet 2
Tourism is a huge economic activity in Europe, including Scandinavian and Baltic countries with essential impact on economic growth, employment and social welfare. Nevertheless, the tourism sector constantly faces various challenges. While tourism is flourishing in bigger cities, the small entrepreneurs or persons willing to set up tourism business in remote areas face serious problems and obstacles. Among them are the following:
1. There is no big stream of customers.
2. There is lack of qualified employees.
3. Limited possibilities of self-improvement in terms of formal and non-formal education, lifelong learning.
All these obstacles mentioned above are complemented by highly seasonal conditions for tourism sector in Nordic and Baltic countries.
The project is designed for entrepreneurs, who want to develop existing tourism services or products, or persons willing to establish new company or organisation operating in tourism. There are foreseen business-oriented training sessions, learning in business environment in Nordtournet-2 project. Partners will develop training materials for tourism entrepreneurs and will practice and experience innovative teaching methods, which are appropriate for efficient education of tourism entrepreneurs.
The project will be very useful for adult education providers too, because they will renew the package of teaching methods and prepare new descriptions of training courses based on practical experience, situation diagnosis and specially adopted for tourism entrepreneurs operating in geographically isolated areas.
All training materials, teaching methods, insights and findings of partners will be available on this website.
Main activities:
1. SITUATION DIAGNOSIS.
At the beginning of project partners will research and make report about specific of adult education in remote areas in the context of situation in the whole country. Also partners will analyse what are peculiarities of entrepreneurs working in the field of tourism in remote areas. By doing analysis partners will try to find answers to questions: if entrepreneurs and adults, dealing with tourism, have possibility to receive formal or non-formal education by living in village or small town, are they satisfied with education services they got, what are their needs for training and improving themselves, what training course they would like to attend, what knowledge they lack, what difficulties they face by running business in geographically isolated place. Means and tools of diagnosis: interview, discussions, analysis of articles, statistics. Situation diagnosis will help to partners to decide on topics of training sessions and course descriptions.
2. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS MEETINGS AND TRAINING SESSIONS.
During two-days partners meeting the host partner will hold 1-day public training for wide audience in the field tourism. Participants will be up to 10 tourism entrepreneurs or people interested in starting tourism business and project partners. The training session must be somehow related to tourism/recreation/cultural tourism/eco-tourism and etc. The scope of topics of the training session can be very wide: creative thinking, risk management, marketing of services/products, organisation of events, market research and etc. The topic of chosen training session will be based on situation diagnosis and capability of partner institution. Also the training session will be related to final project product - description of content of training course for tourism entrepreneurs. Host partner institution will have to demonstrate teaching methods, which involve entrepreneurs into learning/teaching process. The host can use its old teaching method, but it should be applied for teaching of tourism entrepreneurs. The entrepreneur can be as lecturer as well, and to give the material from the point of view experienced businessman. The host can also try new teaching method or old teaching method in new circumstances, i.e. the training session can be like experiment. The second day of partners' meetings will be dedicated to evaluation of training session conducted, some dissemination activities and discussions about administrative issues of project.
3. DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING COURSE AND PREPARATION OF E-PUBLICATION.
Each partner will prepare 1 description of content of training course, which will be totally new, not existed in the list of training courses of participating partner institutions. In total there will be 5 new descriptions in publication. The material and outcomes of training sessions, done during international partners' meetings, will be incorporated into description of content of training course for tourism entrepreneurs. All this material will be involved into e-publication "Innovative Tourism Kit" started to be prepared during NordTourNet-1 project.
