Network includes adult learning centers, universities, non-governmental organisations and small business companies working in the field of tourism and adult education in Nordic and Baltic countries. Many organisations are located in remote areas of their countries.
The main aim of network is to combat with seasonal tourism problems in Nordic-Baltic region of Europe by fostering innovative and sustainable tourism services and products, research the tourism situation in participating countries, sharing innovative ideas for tourism business and educate tourism actors through workshops, seminars, study visits, discussions and jobshadowing.
Network members seek to exchange experience, develop new teaching methods or adopt the old ones for education of tourism entrepreneurs.
The partnership was born and network idea for the first time was discussed in Nordplus Contact Seminar in Stockholm, Sweden, on 29-31 October 2013. Based on this discussion the project application untitled "Tourism Development Challenges in Nordic and Baltic Countries" (NPAD-2014/10050) was applied for funding in 2014 and got the grant by Nordplus Adult programme for establishment of NordTourNet network.
In March 2017 Nordplus Adult Development project "Nordic-Baltic Tourism Learning – NordTourNet-2" (NPAD-2017/10129) was submitted in order to continue the work of NordTourNet-1 partnership. The second application was also successful and got the grant for the period 2017-2019.
The 3 rd project "NordTourNet-3: Solving Communication Problems of Different Generations in Tourism Companies" (NPAD-2020/10015) also was successful. In 2 years partners will analyse intergenerational communication problems in tourism companies by conducting 2 qualitative research and, based on the results of research, will create the game as teaching method for adults – employees of tourism and hospitality sector. Moreover, partnership will prepare training package for adult educators "Train the Trainer".
